Balanced Funds in Kenya
Balanced funds can mix shares, bonds and cash. AMKA shows the latest published figures we can verify, but we do not relabel an old return as a “current rate”.
Freshness check · 27 Oct 2026: AMKA did not find a reliable, like-for-like September/October 2026 performance set for these Kenyan balanced funds. The dated CIC and Old Mutual figures below are retained as the latest verified published figures we hold and are clearly marked historical. The other provider pages were checked again without a comparable current return being verified.
Quick rule
Do not compare different periods as if they are the same rate.
A one-year total return is not a money-market yield, and a December 2025 return should not be presented as an October 2026 rate.
| Fund | Latest verified published figure | Period / as at | Freshness | Minimum | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CIC Balanced Fund Moderate risk | 31.01% 1-year return · gross of fees | Year to Dec 2025 | Historical — not current | KES 5,000 | Official factsheet ↗ |
| Old Mutual Balanced Fund Moderate risk | 28.1% 1-year figure reported in May factsheet copy | As at May 2026 | Historical — not current | KES 5,000 | May 2026 fund factsheet copy |
| Britam Balanced Fund 3–5 year horizon | No current comparable figure verified | Provider page checked 27 Oct 2026 | Current page checked | KES 1,000 | Britam ↗ |
| ICEA LION Balanced Fund Medium risk | No current comparable figure verified | Provider information checked 27 Oct 2026 | Current page checked | KES 500 | ICEA LION ↗ |
| Sanlam Balanced Fund Medium risk · 3–5 year horizon | No current comparable figure verified | Provider information checked 27 Oct 2026 | Current page checked | KES 2,500* | Sanlam ↗ |
*Sanlam's public site states KES 2,500 as the general Unit Trust starting amount. Performance periods and fee bases differ between managers. AMKA therefore does not create a “highest balanced-fund rate” ranking from unlike or stale figures.

What should you check?
Time
How long can you stay invested?
Balanced funds are generally designed for medium-to-long horizons. Short-term withdrawals can expose you to market swings.
Risk
How much can the value move?
Equity exposure gives growth potential but also makes returns less predictable than a money-market fund.
Fees
Is the published return gross or net?
Always check management fees, entry charges, tax treatment and whether the quoted figure is before or after fees.
Need fresher comparable data?
Compare categories with a common reporting basis.
