What a Treasury bill is

A Treasury bill is a short-term loan to the Government of Kenya, sold at a discount and repaid at full face value at maturity. The Central Bank of Kenya auctions 91-day, 182-day and 364-day bills every week, with results published each Friday. The minimum is KES 50,000. Confirm the current tax position with KRA or your bank before relying on a net figure.

How to invest

Open a CDS account with the Central Bank through the DhowCSD platform, then bid in the weekly auction — competitively, naming your rate, or non-competitively, accepting the weighted average.
