CIC MMF: what to compare

Do not judge CIC MMF on the headline rate alone. Compare the source date, withdrawal terms, fees, minimum investment and regulatory status against the rest of the Kenyan MMF market. Amka’s full table currently tracks 35 funds.

What a money market fund is

A money market fund pools investors' cash into short-term government paper, fixed deposits and other interest-earning instruments. Interest accrues daily and is normally paid or reinvested monthly, and withdrawals usually settle within two to four working days. Yields are published by the fund manager and are annualised. Tax treatment varies — confirm with the manager what you would actually receive. All funds shown are collective investment schemes licensed by the Capital Markets Authority.

How to invest

Open an account with the fund manager, usually online with an ID and KRA PIN, then fund it by M-Pesa or bank transfer. Check the minimum, the annual management fee and how long withdrawals take. Verify any manager's licence at cma.or.ke before you invest.
