Since Amka started tracking
A simple compounding illustration using only the rates Amka has actually recorded — not a projection, and not advice.
What a fixed deposit is
A fixed deposit pays an agreed rate for an agreed term, with your capital protected by the bank and, up to the statutory limit, by the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation. Rates are negotiable at larger amounts and breaking early usually costs you the interest. Interest attracts 15% withholding tax.
How to invest
Arrange with your bank directly. Always negotiate — the advertised rate is rarely the best available for a meaningful deposit — and compare against money market funds, which are often higher and more flexible.
What this pays you
